Why is change so hard? I am reflecting on how I believe that many of us want to make a change in our lives but how much we struggle to actually do it. Is it that we don’t have the willpower; that we haven’t yet been scared into it; or that we haven’t found a reason big enough to make the change?
Or maybe it is none of that. Is it possible that deep down we don’t think we are worth it? Or that we are so wrapped up in our habits, in what we think society says we should be or what we should do that we have lost sight of what we want? Are we missing the courage to listen to that inner voice and the willpower to channel our internal strength to focus on what is right for us? Or perhaps it’s the change itself that just seems too big or too radical and therefore too much effort, so why start?
If any of this sounds familiar to you, know that you are not alone. The only difference between where you are today and others that you have witnessed significant change in, is that they made the courageous decision to START. To take a step in the direction of their goal no matter how small that first step may be and then to keep moving!
The easiest way to do that is to break down your goals into small bite size steps that set you up for success. As you achieve each milestone, you will not only feel a sense of accomplishment, but you will also feel momentum build and will achieve beyond your initial expectations. Don’t forget to check yourself to ensure you don’t wait for perfection – it doesn’t exist and chasing it is just another excuse to delay.
Most importantly, know that you are worth it. You have everything you need to achieve greatness, look inside for your authentic path and then let nothing hold you back. You only have one shot at life and time is precious, are you really going to waste it or are you going to START today?
